Cllr Shabir Pandor

Leader, Kirklees Council, West Yorkshire

Cllr Pandor has been a councillor since 2002, representing the Labour & Co-operative Party in Batley West.

He was Deputy Leader of the Council from 2016 to 2018, becoming Leader in May 2018.

In addition to leading on political strategy and policy for Kirklees Council, Shabir sits on the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Board and he chairs its Inclusive Growth and Public Policy Panel. He also serves on the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. He also represents Kirklees on the Key Cities Group, being a robust advocate to Government for fair funding and representation for towns in the North of England.

Prior to his senior leadership roles, Cllr Pandor served as Chair of Housing Management Committee, Chair of Area Committee, Chair of Area Committee Advisory Committee, Chair of Corporate Affairs Scrutiny Panel, Board of Governors (Dewsbury College), Cabinet Member for Adults & Communities, Cabinet Member for Corporate Resources and Cabinet Member for Education & Learning.

Prior to being a politician, Cllr Pandor worked in housing and the NHS.
